The Sud Möbel Chair is the essence of structural simplicity. It is a fully functional realization of the ideas embodied in Rietveld's Red/Blue Chair. Two three-part orthogonal compression joints at the intersection of the seat and back frames lock the 12 structural components together in dynamic tension. The result is a lounge chair of extraordinary comfort and mobility.
The piece can be taken apart and reassembled with only an Allen wrench. It is constructed from 1 3/8" squares in three lengths. This frame was hand crafted in Brazilian Jatoba by the designer in 1975. It was refitted in 1998 with cobalt blue glove leather cushions.
